Federal Mogul and India

Interesting to note that Federal Mogul is to establish a plant in India.

Go figure - most people are establishing plants in India these days, despite the fact that the domestic CV market is beginning to look a touch wobbly. Ashok Leyland's inventory appears to be rising - according to this report - whilst Eicher - AB Volvo's NBF in India - posted a stinker in July.

And of course, the thought of the FM boss negotiating anywhere near Iveco - which may or may not get its relationship with Tata sorted out whilst the planet remains spherical - is a particularly gratifying one. There are those at Iveco who still speak in terms that could be described as robust, and which frequently veer towards the gynaecological when discussing their ex CEO Jose Maria Alponte, who left the Italians a while back to take the helm of Federal Mogul.

But it's not all good news for Federal Mogul. Here's news that GM CEO Rick Waggoner took time off from his other duties to address a group of business leaders in Dallas. Given the number of businesses in Dallas that are now ex businesses, we'd opine that it must have been a fairly intimate gathering, but key to RW's presence is his view that 'Comments in the past week about a potential bankruptcy are not at all constructive or accurate'. We can't comment on either constructiveness or accuracy, but plausibility; that's a rather different matter.

And should GM end up in Chapter 11 - and this report suggests that at least one of the Big Three will - then there are one or two suppliers that might just have cause to worry. Including FM, which, of course, only emerged from bankruptcy in December 2007. Easy come, easy go you might say.
