European Downturn: Volvo Goes First

News here that AB Volvo is to cut 1400 jobs as European truck demand softens.
We suspect that this is only the beginning; we've said all along that 2009 is going to be one of the worst years on record for European truck sales, and the notion that Eastern Europe and Russia will in some way shore up the disaster is charming in its naivety.

Will Paccar push through its mooted capacity increase at Eindhoven? It's due around about now, and we rather suspect that Mark Piggot's announcement a few months back may well prove to be one that he chooses to forget making.
