Paccar Plunges in Q2

Paccar's Q2 numbers are in, and they don't contain much by way of a surprise. The owner of the Peterbilt, Kenworth and DAF marques reported that its second quarter net income was $26.5 million or $0.07 per share, compared to $313.5 million or $0.86 per share in the second quarter last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.04 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

During the second quarter, PACCAR discontinued certain subsidies for post-retirement health care plans and recorded a one-time benefit of $30.0 million.

Second quarter net sales and financial services revenues were $1.85 billion compared to $4.11 billion in 2008. Net sales and revenues for the quarter were $1.60 billion, compared to $3.78 billion in the year ago quarter. Twelve analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $1.71 billion for the quarter.
