Little Green Truck: Britain's greenest fleets
Today, there are so many firms aiming to be green that we could not include them all on this page – and that in itself is a fantastic victory for the UK road transport industry. But our apologies if you deserve to be in this list and are not.
- Asda ran a comprehensive overhaul of its fleet, trialling gas and biofuelled trucks to find the most efficient and environmentally sustainable.
- Marks & Spencer has committed itself to carbon neutrality across its manufacturing and transport.
- Devereux Transport has been running its fleet on biofuel for several years.
- Stiller Transport not only runs its fleet on PetroPlus biofuel, but also delivers it.
- Waitrose is running a six-month trial of rapeseed oil.
- Bulmers Logistics has run a crackdown on fuel usage, including tyre management, driver training and customer education initiatives.
- Eco-Logistics took eco-awareness to BBC2’s Dragon’s Den, putting environmentally friendly road transport in the spotlight.
- TNT has been trialling battery-powered 7.5-tonners from Smith Electric, which have a range of 150 miles.
- Innovate Logistics, along with its parent company Eimskip, and Innovate Holdings, is committed to achieving carbon negativity. This has involved an audit and overhaul of every asset and process in the company, as well as opening ‘the country’s greenest office building’.
- Tesco, which has long run on biofuel and offers a 5% blend at its forecourts, is trialling Fuso Canter hybrids, as are DHL and Royal Mail.
- TM Logistics uses biofuels.
- Pall-Ex runs CNG forklifts.
