Senior technical writer,
Road Transport Group

Having worked on Commercial Motor for the past five years, I've now branched out to also write for Motor Transport and Roadtransport.com as the Road Transport Group's senior technical writer.
As the group's van and component expert, it's my responsibility to drive and assess the performance of everything at 3.5 tonnes and below, though a move up to bigger boys isn't out of the question as I recently passed my HGV test.
But this path to greatness wasn't as seamless as you may think.
Having left university with a degree and no set career path, I packed my bags and moved from Southport to London to seek my fortune, first entering the world of publishing 10 years ago in a sales capacity - with limited satisfaction.
But finding that people less intelligent than me were passing themselves off as journalists on magazines, I decided to switch careers and jump on board.
Following my completion of a post-grad in magazine journalism, complete with a stint on Autocar, I took my newly acquired NTCJ qualification to Automotive World to write about the motoring industry in a business capacity.
However, after re-writing one too many press releases it was time for some practical experience to further my interests in motoring.
This led me to CM – and back to the publishing company where I started my illustrious sales career (they must have lost the records), roadtesting light CVs of all shapes and sizes, and travelling the world (well, Europe) to leave no new van unturned.
