Supporting the Little Green Truck: Michelin and Shell

The Little Green Truck campaign, sponsored by Michelin and Shell

Michelin says:

As the leading manufacturer in the UK’s CV tyre replacement market, Michelin is proud to support CM’s Little Green Truck initiative. Michelin’s end-of-life truck tyres end up as non-polluting fuel for cement kilns, children’s play area surfaces or road coverings – but only after hundreds of thousands of kilometres have been clocked up. “Many people outside road transport see trucks as terrible polluters, pumping out fumes and clogging up roads,” says Chris Bloor, commercial director in the UK and Republic of Ireland. “So CM’s Little Green Truck initiative is what this industry needs to highlight its green credentials, while encouraging operators to take additional steps to reduce their carbon footprint.”

Only in February, CM reported that a four-year-old 6x2 tractor unit in the Samworth Brothers Distribution fleet in Plymouth had passed the one-million-kilometre mark on the same set of Michelin drive-axle tyre casings, with the potential for another 500,000km. “These kinds of achievements are only possible when the industry works together to encourage best practice, but when it does, the results speak for themselves,” adds Bloor. “By partnering with CM and Shell, I hope we can play a key role in ensuring that the Little Green Truck becomes the clean face of our industry. It’s a programme I’m proud for Michelin to be supporting.”

Shell says:

Justine Clare, cluster manager for Shell Lubricants, says: “A key issue facing businesses, governments and consumers is the environmental challenge, and we need to understand what can be done to minimise the impact of our actions. Shell UK Oil Products is proud to support the Little Green Truck campaign because it’s in line with Shell’s business principles. We’re pleased to be partnering CM and Michelin to promote efficiency and energy conservation in the UK’s road haulage industry.

“Working with major fleet customers and truck-makers, we know how efficient modern vehicles are when they are well maintained and operated.”
